the door opens up, you brush off your feet
and take your seat
next to the kids
while I plate the food
And we ask about your project,
your beautiful garden.
Your quest to get more bees to wanna move in
we ask about the latest changes, how they affect the numbers
I watch your face as you tell us their names, how many they are, what they like and dislike
you finally found a real life simulation game
(that won’t make you feel bad, for playing too long)
Later in the evening we sit on the couch
the kids are sleeping, with books in our hands, the light is dim
You ask me for the fourteenth time not to interrupt, not to tell you about every line I read, but we both know that will not happen, and in this dream that is ok
I will try to start a fire
